RESUME: Recently, the libraries, the museums, and the archives cooperation begin to be paid to attention. But the concrete policy of the different kind pavilion cooperation is not clear. It aimed to narrow the focus to the university libraries and the university museums cooperation intended for the academic material on humanity fields, to clarify the realities, and to present the strategy to concrete different kind pavilion cooperation in this thesis. As a result of the investigation, Yamagata University "Benibana(Safflower) project" can be called a content to which it pays attention in promoting the different kind pavilion cooperation.
Physical Structure of Japanese Woodblocks for Printed Books

RESUME: We are running an archiving project of digitizing 5,000 woodblocks for Japanese printed books owned by Nara University, to apply them to researching on publishing in Edo period. Though they have remarkable points of view, they have been considered to be just attendants on printed books. It’s important to observe woodblocks accurately because the research on them will bring us better eye for printed books, then they will stimulate on studies in publishing, literature and the arts, based on bibliography. This article propose the necessity of “Bibliography for Woodblocks”, mentioning how to observe woodblocks and their physical structure.
Building an Authority file for Personal Names that Leverages Societal Networks: Centered on Personal Names of the “Shashin-shi” of the Pre-War Period

RESUME: As the publication of cultural resource information centered on historical documents and cultural resources continues to progress though media such as the internet, it is necessary to manage and organize personal name information thereof and to effect the identification of personal name information on the web to make possible efficient and comprehensive searches.
Moreover, historical and social networks, such as bloodlines, shared territorial bonds, master-disciple relationships, relationships between students of the same professors, school ties, etc. Authority file, by storing such information, are also more useful for searching and researching materials on electronic networks. To this end, this research, which emphasizes consideration of information found in historical and societal networks, builds an authoritative information source that stores basic information related to each person and promotes the identification of personal names on the Web.
This information is used to construct an authoritative source of information on the “shashin-shi(photographer)” that played a in developing photograph and printing industry of pre-War Japan. This paper provides validation of the design of the categories of authoritative information sources, as well as storage and use of the information.
Current Conditions of Public Information on Japanese Art Collections in Italy, and on Italian Government’s Policy toward Digitizing Cultural Properties

RESUME: Recently, the Italian Government has been promoting various projects to disseminate its national cultural heritage to the world through information technology under the EU’s integrating information society policy. Among these projects, I discuss representative ones to digitize European cultural heritages, led by the Italian Ministry of Culture, as well as the Italian National Portal to make a vast variety of digital resources available online. I also explain the current situation regarding digitization and information dissemination of Japanese art materials, dotted all over Italy, which leads me to address some issues in order to realize research that utilizes the Japanese art collections in Italy through digitization.
A Report on Exhibition Chronology and Artist Index to the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo

RESUME: The year 2009 marks the 50th Anniversary of the opening of National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo, in 1959 as the institution for the housing and public display of the Matsukata Collection, returned to the Japanese people by the French government. On the occasion of the anniversary, the National Museum of Western Art published a reference book titled Exhibition Chronology and Artist Index: 1960 – 2009. The book contains not only a comprehensive list of exhibitions held by the National Museum of Western Art, but also an index of artists and their works represented in the exhibition catalogues of the National Museum of Western Art. This paper gives a brief overview of the initiative involving the Research Library at the National Museum of Western Art.
